As most know, blonde is already considered a high maintenance colour that requires a lot of at home care to ensure your colour doesn’t fade and stays looking fresh, vibrant, and healthy between your visits every 6-8 weeks.
With the lockdown that we are currently in here in Melbourne, we can totally understand that having to stretch out and miss your appointments will be driving you crazy.
Nothing beats the feeling of getting your foils done and toner refreshed!
This is why we have put together a few tips to help you in maintaining your blonde during this lockdown:
1. All the purple shampoo
Purple shampoo is every blondes best friend. It helps to counteract those unwanted brassy tones and using it as part of your regular haircare routine will help keep the brass at bay!
Sometimes when you’re close to your appointment and the toner has faded, it may not feel it does as much. If this is the case, try using it each time you shampoo – for your second shampoo. Also, one of the best ways to strengthen it is to towel dry your hair really well before you apply the shampoo.
Why? The more water left in your hair, the more it dilutes the strength of a shampoo or conditioner. So, the drier the better. Don’t be be scared to leave it in for a few minutes. Once you’ve lathered and spread it through your hair, leave it in for a good few minutes like you would a shampoo.
If you need to stock up, we highly recommend the Pureology Best Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner.
2. Turn the heat down
Did you know that heat damage is a major factor in colour fading and a big cause of brassiness in blondes?
So if you are still straightening or curling during this time, make sure your heat tool is no hotter than 190 degrees, you are using a heat protector.
Don’t run over the same section too many times. Ultimately, if you can give your hair a break during these times and you have days you don’t need it styled, let it be! Give it a break from the stress of heat and it will help with overall health of your hair as well.
3. Give it the nourishment it needs
Blonding has come a long way, but while much more gentle on the hair nowadays, it still is a chemical process on the hair and we need to be mindful of making sure we give it the nutrients and nourishment it needs to keep it at its best.
Blonde hair needs protein added into it for strength and health, and moisture will never go astray. To help strengthen damaged hair, our ultimate recommendation is the Pureology Strength Cure shampoo and conditioner (different from the Strength Cure Best Blonde).
If you want to go all out and really give your hair a treat and have some extra down time – try adding a treatment to your haircare regime! Your hair will thank you.
The same way our skin loves face masks, our hair loves a hair mask and we love to use the Pureology Strength Cure Super Food mask.
By improving the strength and overall condition of your hair, this means once we are ready to get in and touch up your colour, your hair will be in its best possible condition and looking fresh again!
