In this weeks edition of #HairTalk, we discuss looking after your hair on holidays and how to make it easier for yourself!
The last thing you want to worry about while on holidays is your hair all the time! Salt Water, Chlorine and Sun can really dry out your hair and strip it of its natural oils. Some don’t mind that, but for others – not so much.
To make it easy, we will break it up into two main parts: Utilising Products, and How you can wear your hair on holidays.
Salt Water from the beach, Chlorine from the pool as well as the Sun - all dry out your hair! Your hair lacks moisture at this point, due to these elements that have stripped your hair of its natural oils. So, that moisture needs to be replenished!
It is important to ensure you give your hair a thorough wash and condition after being at the beach or pool all day.
To do this, we recommend using a Moisture-based Shampoo + Conditioner, such as the ones in the Alfaparf Semi Di Lino Nutritive Range, which moisturises, nourishes & softens while your dry hair quickly regains a healthy, soft and silky appearance.
The Nutritive Shampoo will give your hair the moisture it needs as well as gently cleanse your scalp and nourish the hair fiber.
To condition, the Nutritive Mask will moisturise, nourish and strengthen the hair, making your hair soft, shiny and easy to comb.
The Nutritive Leave-In conditioner is perfect for taking on holidays. Not only will it soften the hair fiber and make it easier to control without weighing it down, it leaves a seal on your hair that acts as a barrier against the chlorine in pools, because it is still in your hair and doesn’t get rinsed out straight away. This way Chlorine and Salt will not be absorbed into your hair as quickly, which will leave your hair cleaner and easier to wash at the end of the day!
Coloured Hair in Pools
As many may have experienced, pools can give your coloured hair a green shade to it. This is due to the copper in Chlorine, and especially happens among blondes/bleached hair.
It is extremely important to give your coloured hair a good wash and condition after being in the pool. If you are a blonde and use a Purple Shampoo, we recommend using that to shampoo your hair to help restore and protect the blonde tones as well and the conditioner that goes with it - if you have it.
Otherwise, the HYDRATE Shampoo and Conditioner from Pureology works perfect. They are Sulfate Free, and gently cleanse the hair so it will not strip any colour. The Hydrate Range will also provide moisture and hydrate your hair which is essential after swimming in chlorine or at the beach and being in the sun.
This brings us to another important factor, which is the Sun. Unless you are wearing a hat all the time, your hair is going to be exposed, which will dry out your hair and leave you prone to UV Damage. If your hair is coloured, not only will it dry out even more than un-coloured hair, it can fade or discolour slightly from the sun.
A super handy product to use is the Extraordinary All in One Fluid by Alfaparf.
This is a Multi action leave-in fluid, that:
- Gives extreme, instant shine.
- Detangles the hair.
- Helps to protect against UV rays.
- Designed to protect the cosmetic colour.
- Prevents the formation of split ends.
- Controls frizz.
- Counteracts the effect of humidity.
- Seals the cuticles.
- Gives a soft and silky feel.
- Makes the hair easier to brush.
It has all the things you need to take care of your hair on holidays, especially if you are in the sun a lot. The UV Protection is extremely important!
Embracing the Beach Look
Some of us enjoy our holiday hair. The undone, beachy look. The natural texture the sea salt gives your hair. There are ways to enhance these styles too! If you have curls, the Alfaparf Style Stores Twisted Curls is perfect! It is a curl cream which amplifies, controls and separates the strands, giving maximum definition and softness, without leaving any residue.
Another great product if you are looking to refine your sea salt look, is a sea salt spray. The Alfaparf Sea Spray will boost your texture to instantly create a defined and tousled look.
How to Wear Your Hair on Holidays
Trying to get your hair perfect is the last thing you need to worry about on holidays. You want to focus on the holiday, right? Relax!
The key is to keep it low maintenance. Hats are great, especially when you are out in the sun. However, you most likely can’t always wear a hat, and it’s a good idea to let your hair breath every once in a while.
Braids or Plaits are great on holidays! They are neat and out of the way. They also can help contain the moisture from your shampoo and conditioner.
Less Heat Tools
The less heat tools, the better. Especially if you are on holidays in the sun. You don’t want to put your hair under any more strain than it already is being in the sun.
Straightening, Curling and Blow Waving should be kept to a minimum if you are out in the sun all day!
